Prof. (Dr.) Vini Singh, Associate Professor of Law at the Dhirubhai Ambani University – School of Law, presented her research at the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) 10th Biennial Conference 2025, held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 9–10 October 2025. The prestigious conference brought together international scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss evolving themes in public and private international law.
Dr. Singh delivered a paper titled “The Politics of Profiling: Protecting Democracy and Privacy in the Age of Targeted Political Campaigning.” Her presentation explored how AI-driven political microtargeting is reshaping democratic participation, electoral behaviour, and information ecosystems. Through a comparative analysis of regulatory regimes in the European Union, Singapore, and India, she examined the extent to which existing legal frameworks protect voter autonomy, privacy, and democratic integrity.
Her research highlighted major areas of concern—including algorithmic profiling, disinformation, opaque data practices, and the increasing sophistication of digital campaigning—and underscored the urgent need for stronger safeguards to prevent AI-enabled voter manipulation. The paper contributed to a broader global discourse on how democracies can uphold transparency, accountability, and trust amidst rapid technological transformation.
Dr. Singh’s participation at AsianSIL demonstrates the University’s growing engagement with international forums and its commitment to advancing scholarship at the intersection of law, technology, and democratic governance.
